ABOUT US

"All truths are easy to understand after they are found; but the point lies in knowing how to find them."

digit diver was founded on the principle that any business providing legal services should always be about the truth. Finding the truth in digital evidence – as our motto goes – is what guides us in our work. The truth may not always be pretty – it may exonerate someone previously thought to be guilty, for example – but it is the right and just thing to do. We would not be able to sleep at night if we went against our ethics in order to appease one side over the other. Fortunately, digital forensics is rooted in science, so we need only to reveal the truth in the evidence. The science speaks for itself.

Chris Harrington – founder & principal consultant

Prior to starting digit diver, Chris worked in law enforcement for an agency in Upstate New York for over 17 years. (Combined with his time as an active duty infantry soldier in the United States Army, Chris was able to retire with 20 years total of public service.)  During his time in law enforcement, Chris was fortunate enough to participate in many high-profile criminal investigations, both as an investigator and as a digital forensics examiner. In 2012 Chris was selected to participate as a fulltime member of a Federal cybercrime task force where he investigated computer network intrusions, sex trafficking of minors, child pornography cases and many other cases that involved digital evidence. He also obtained a top secret security clearance as required by the federal agency to which he was attached. In addition to working cyber cases, the security clearance also allowed him to assistant in several high-profile and sensitive federal cases involving homicide, robbery, drugs, medical fraud and terrorism. It was through these cases that Chris saw first-hand the importance of digital evidence in criminal cases. After his time ended on the task force, Chris helped to establish his agency’s first digital forensics unit, one of the few such units in the Upstate New York region at the time. Serving as a digital forensics examiner and investigator, Chris assisted with numerous cases from local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies. He developed a reputation with civilians, investigators, attorneys and judges alike as not only a go-to person for his expertise but also as someone willing to help anyone, anytime with anything digital. Chris has also given presentations at various events about cyber security as well as trained numerous students in digital forensics and electronic media in general. He has always enjoyed teaching as a way of showing just how cool this field is! Over time, Chris received training from various State and Federal law enforcement organizations and earned several certifications. Among those certifications is the IACIS Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) and the Certified Mobile Device Examiner (CMDE), also from IACIS. Chris also completed a Master’s Degree (MSc.) in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigations (FCCI) from the University College Dublin. With Chris you will find a skilled criminal investigator with several years of digital forensics experience, but also a person with the highest sense of integrity, dedication, work ethic, diligence and honor that you would expect from a former member of the military and law enforcement. So what is the deal with the logo?  It’s pretty mundane really – we like the concept of a person diving into a binary sea of data, looking for treasure (information).

And the binary digits – 01011000 – are the decimal number “88” which we consider good luck. (Have you noticed how many 8s we have in our phone number?)
